JOÃO MANSO

João Manso was born in Almeirim in 1980. He holds a degree in Cinema, Video and Multimedia Communication from Lusófona University. Since 2007, he has been working as a director, assistant director, and video editor.

His films have been screened at numerous film festivals in Portugal and abroad. In 2013, he co-directed his first feature film, Bibliografia, with Miguel Manso, which had its international premiere at the Torino Film Festival. In 2018, he directed the short film História Secreta da Aviação (Secret History of Aviation), based on the text by Manuel Zimbro, which premiered in the national competition at Doclisboa – International Film Festival. In 2023, he collaborated once again with Miguel Manso on the co-direction of Passagem dos Elefantes / Antologia de Elefantes, presented at CineEco – International Environmental Film Festival of Serra da Estrela.

As an assistant director, he has worked with several filmmakers, including Margarida Cardoso, Miguel Gomes, João Canijo, Pedro Pinho, François Manceaux, Bruno de Almeida, Simão Cayatte, António Borges Correia, and Daniel Soares.
